Seeking apartment in London

Hello,
My husband and I, as well as our 19 and 22 year old children, will be visiting London for the first time this coming June. We are looking for an apartment rental that offers a clean, comfortable environment with easy access to transportation so that we can cover as much ground as possible during our visit. I've seen some apartments on VisitLondonApartments.co.uk through a family run company called The Independent Traveller. Their cancellation policy is less forgiving, so I am unsure about taking the risk. Have any of you worked with this company or had any experience in reservations with them? I am looking in the area of South Kensington/Earls Court, due to RS recommendations, but am open to any suggestions. We are avid walkers, each of us has different interests, so we hope to cover a lot of ground while visiting. Any advice you can offer is much appreciated!

Is the concept of apartment rental because you want a kitchen to prepare meals?

Would you consider a small BnB with adjoining rooms that is centrally located?

I’m going to PM it’s location

Thank you ramblinon- I checked your suggestion; however, they have no availability for a family of four during our travel time. I appreciate your help. Any other thoughts?

Claudia,
Having a kitchen, or at least a small refrigerator, would be ideal considering our oldest son's appetite. :) I am open to B&Bs for sure. Just want comfortable, clean, quiet and convenient for access. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

We recently researched London apartments for an upcoming trip (mid-June). VRBO offered options in South Kensington that we strongly considered. We ultimately booked Citadines Trafalgar Square because of its location.

Good luck on your search and happy travels!

Thank you so much for all of these suggestions! I look forward to checking in to all of them. I'll be so excited to plan our trip once I can secure our accomodations.

There are numerous chain hotels that have kitchens in their rooms as well as sef-service laundry facilities. Besides the aforementioned Citadines, there is Frasier Suites, Staybridge Suites, Staycity, Residence Inn (stay away from the Kensington location) and Hyatt House.

Apartments that are run like hotels are known a "serviced apartments."

Have you tried looking for apartments on https://Booking.com or https://VRBO.com?

We have used both and will use them again.

Since you need two or three bed rooms, the experiences you can get here may be limited (at least it is my feeling that most members are - like us - "advanced" in years and don't much travel with children).

We often use apartments instead of hotes, because

  1. Our morning schedule is different: I tend to sleep an extra hour after my wife needs her morning coffee.
  2. We like to linger over breakfast. Reading mail and the news on our labtops.
  3. I don't much like the great buffets you get at most hotels. Too much food (except if I am hiking :-) Then I need the food)

I am so grateful to each of you for your responses, and especially Claudia, who has messaged me some very helpful suggestions. I have looked into each property suggested, and have found that finding availability for a family of four isn't as easy as I'd hoped, but possible! I have narrowed down some apartments, as I do believe the extra space will afford us a happier visit, and I'd love some advice as to which area might be most suitable for easy access to transportation so that we can cover a lot of ground during our visit. Have any of you had positive experiences with A Place Like Home? I have found an apartment in Pimlico on Tachbrook St., which looks fairly close to the Pimlico tube. Any thoughts as to this being a positive location? Thank you for any thoughts you might have.

Try a company called Coach House Rentals. They were a pleasure to work with.

Pimlico is a decent area. I wouldn't have any concerns about staying there. Not far from Westminster and the Houses of Parliament, and Tate Britain.

There's a renowned cafe not too far away that is famous for its traditional English breakfast - https://regencycafe.has.restaurant/
