Our cruise is docking in Southhampton the morning of May 5th and we have the option of a half day excursion to either Stonehenge or Windsor Castle? The final option would be to head straight to London to maximize our 3 nights & 3 days there. What to do?
We did a cruise out of Southampton and you need to be aware that traffic builds up around the city, especially on the weekend.
You could easily take in Windsor Castle, a half day event. Depending on what time you finished, you might have time to go to Stonehenge. If not Stonehenge, is also a half day event, also Salisbury to see its Cathedral, or perhaps Winchester, which is close to Southampton.
We loved all those places.
All is great. I would choose 3 days in blockbuster London, so much to do and see so little time.
I love Stonehenge. I love Windsor Castle. I love London.
If you haven't been to London, I'd opt for heading straight there and having as much time as possible there.
Stonehenge and Windsor can go on your To-do list for the next trip.
I think heading straight to London would be the best option. I am going back to London for 3 days after spend 10 days there last year and I am worried about still not getting to everything left to see that I want to. London has a lot to do.
Now if you are set on one of the excursions my vote is for Windsor. I haven't seen Stonehenge and want to but I am actually skipping it to go to Kenilworth Castle because of the connection to Elizabeth I and Robert Dudley.
London, London, London.
Did I say London?
So much to see and do!
History, architecture, Royalty, free museums, fun markets, fabulous churches, lovely parks, brilliant theatre and numerous food options.
Great city! Always changing, always the same.
Easy transport.
If time permits you could do a day trip to Windsor or Hampton Court.
Personally, Stonehenge wouldn't be in my top 100 places to see in the UK, but each to their own.
We can't advise you, as you haven't given us any clues as to your interests. I would head to London, with Windsor as a second choice.
Agree with Pam -- London ! Saw Windsor on trip #2, Stonehenge on trip #3 and both were great add-ons to London.

I have been to London before but not in a long time. My husband has never been. It sounds like the consensus is that we will want the 1/2 day we would have spent at either place in London. We will take your advice! Much appreciated!!
I am a huge fan of Windsor and recommend it to all my friends. Best day trip I can imagine.
I was surprised how much I like Stonehenge. Yes, it's just a bunch of rocks in a field. But it was strangely affecting.
Having said that, I would spend all the time in London. There simply isn't anything like London anywhere. Any less than 3 days and you may as well not go at all, imo.
Kenilworth Station is now open. Hourly service by West Midlands Trains between Coventry and Royal Leamington Spa.
