Scotland back to Heathrow

We have two days plus several more morning hours (flight to US leaves at 13:10 so not many hours ) to drive from Inverness back to London Heathrow. I have the trip planned from Inverness to Edinburgh area where we were going to fly home from, but due to some great Iceland Air tickets, we are now returning from LHR. Looking for ideas of places to visit on the trip south (particularly south of Edinburgh). Maybe first night near Hadrian's Wall - good place to visit the wall and a B and B in the area? Then what else would you recommend on the second full day of driving toward London (not York)? We will need a place to stay the night before we leave too... Thinking about Oxford area...Is there a good B and B in that area? Or is there a better place to spend our last night? We will have been to Edinburgh, York, Scotland, and London already. Thanks!!!

Icelandair serves Glasgow and Aberdeen did you check returning from there?

Your 2 days are mostly going to be filled with driving so are you sightseeing evenings?

If you are starting in London maybe move one of your driving relocation days to earlier in the trip.

Rather than doing all that driving, try flying back from Aberdeen, say, to London the evening before.

As others have said, you'll be spending most of the 2 days driving. I would definitely recommend staying your last night very near Heathrow -- do not plan any activities that morning, just have breakfast and get to the airport even though your flight isn't set to leave until 13:10. You never know about road tieups, car trouble, etc. and you do not want to be late for your flight.

If you want a moderately charming location with convenient connections, consider Newbury -- the Hare & Hounds is an affordable converted 18th-century coaching inn.

If you're determined to drive from Inverness instead of flying (or even taking the train!), I would say make your first day the long one and head to York. Next day, take a bit of a breather, see some of the sights in York, drive to Newbury or somewhere else near Heathrow.
