We hv Indian passport, valid UK visa till Jan24 & hv Schengen visa from 23rd oct till Jan24. We are boarding a cruise from Southampton on 20th Oct which is planned to go to Hamburg on 24th Oct. Will we be allowed entry on the cruise on 20th knowing that our Schengen starts on 23rd & cruise actually goes to the 1st Schengen country on 24th?
That's a question you should ask your cruise line.
The cruise line may not like this, because what happens if the ship has to divert to a Schengen port on 21st or 22nd for any reason?
Thank you - I am checking with the cruise line as well but not getting any answers so far :-(
We can’t extend the Schengen visa from UK as it has to happen from India only (embassy confirmed that).
So I am wondering what options we are left with :-(
Thanks for your responses!
Just spoke to the cruise line and said check with the embassy as they can’t advise on this!
I am thinking you are currently in the UK? If so, perhaps the Indian embassy can be of assistance. I, like others, are hesitant to have a solid answer for you either way. I have a feeling that you will need a valid visa upon embarkment, but I could be completely wrong on that. I don't think the cruise line would be willing to give you the answer as they are not an immigration entity and that would be a big liability for them. Any way to change your cruise dates?
Odd the cruise line will not advise what documents they require to board the boat.
Really and honestly this should have been checked before booking, and certainly before paying final balance.
Worst case is that you are turned away at the port at which time you will have no financial recourse.
Joe, few, if any, cruise lines want to take that responsibility. Cruise bookings might open up 2 years out, but entry requirements can change at the drop of a hat. And they have guests coming from different countries from all over the world, with different entry requirements depending on their country if origin. Most lines have a clause in their Terms and Conditions that it is the passenger's responsibility to ensure they have all the necessary documents before boarding the ship. The most they can do is point you in the direction of the official sources of information.
Yes we are in UK now!
Thank you, All! Much appreciated!
