I"m getting mixed messages on the website about the tower tour at the Salisbury cathedral. At one point is describes the steps as "easy" but then it has all these warnings about pregnant people, anyone over 80, etc. Has anyone here been on the tout to be more specific? (I am moderately fit but not extremely).
Been on the tour where you climb to the top of the tower several years ago. I even still have my button that says I did it, they gave us at the top. I will emphasize that it’s a whole lot of stairs and more moderate versus easy if you’re in shape to climb stairs. I thought it was very interesting to see the structure of the cathedral. I’m not quite sure what to compare it to for you. It was more stairs than the Arch de Triumph in Paris. It was easier for me than carrying my suitcase up four flights of stairs for a RS tour….
We've done it. I don't remember it being terriibly strenuous. I would think if you're moderately fit you should be fine. I have never considered myself more than moderatly fit:). We really enjoyed the experience!
I've done it multiple times (I'm from Salisbury!). There are a lot of stairs, but in short bursts if that makes sense. You climb up a level, the guide explains about the construction and history, and then you climb another level, more explanation, another climb, etc. etc. There are lots of opportunities to pause. I remember some of the staircases being narrow but there's always a hand rail. It's a wonderful experience.
