Salisbury Lodgings

Hello!
I have begun booking our B&Bs for our late Sept/early Oct 2023 trip! We have an overnight in Salisbury, and Cathedral View is not available. We are a family of 4 adults, not needing anything fancy, just clean and comfortable. I am looking at:
Qudos
Cricket Field House
Caboose

Thoughts? Qudos looks nice, and the price is attractive, but I've read a lot of reviews that the water pressure is a real problem.
Cricket is probably more than we need, we are just needing a place to sleep one night.

Does anyone have a personal experience with any of these, or suggestions of other places I may not have looked at? I haven't seen anything recent here on the forum.
Thanks in advance!

No suggestions, I’m just heartbroken that Steve and Wenda are retiring and closing Cathedral View!

I’ve stayed in a couple of hotel accommodations in Salisbury but it looks like that’s not quite what you’re looking for.

Looking at location only, Qudos or Caboose look better than Cricket which looks too far out to walk into town. Caboose looks to be right on the rail line so not sure how noisy that might be.

I stayed at Cricket some years ago. It was very pleasant, and although I had a car , I recall that there was convenient bus service into town and back , it is as Pam said a bit too far to walk .

I was just looking at the Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel and am strongly considering it. Any feedback on this one?

I stayed at the Rose and Crown on Rick's Southern England tour. It was a good location, easy to walk to the city center and nicely sited on the river. We were there on a Friday and Saturday night and apparently this is/was a big venue for weddings and celebrations. My room faced the garden area where these are held and it was pretty loud until midnight including a disco ball, haha. IF you aren't going on a Friday/Saturday I'd have no qualms about staying here again. The breakfast was fantastic...but it was pre-covid so not sure if they still have their fabulous breakfast buffet.

I've also stayed at the Mercure White Hart on a Road Scholar tour. It was really well located (just a block or so from Cathedral View) but was not as nice on the inside as the Rose and Crown. This was in 2016 and it badly needed updating. Breakfast was so-so. I'd probably only stay here if every other place was booked.

I've also got my eye on the Best Western Red Lion. I've walked back into their courtyard on a walking tour of Salisbury (from the Tourist Information office) and it is pretty cool. It's got some 13th Century parts still in use as I understood it. I've not stayed there but am looking at it for my next stay in Salisbury.

Are you going to have a car? Rose and Crown might be easier for that as I think they have some parking and it is a little away from the City Center. You'd have to check. The other 2 are right in the city center and might have more difficult parking access. I do not know this for sure as I have not driven in England.

Pam, thank you for your feedback. Yes, we will have a car. It would be a Sunday night and the Rose & Crown has a really good deal on rooms on Sundays, albeit non-refundable. We are debating going ahead and booking it, as it does look very nice and the deal can't be beat.

Honestly, this far out I'm not a fan of non-refundable unless it's a small enough amount that it won't hurt to just dump the money if your plans change. Think about what you would have done if you booked in October 2019 for a September 2020 vacation. Your vacation and your pocketbook though, lol!!

Thanks for all the replies! We went ahead and booked the Sunday Stopover deal at the Legacy Rose and Crown. Great price, includes dinner, bottle of wine, and breakfast.

Hi,
I did the RS tour in May and when we went to Salisbury we stayed at the Red Lion. Very old hotel, rather quirky but great location. i have no idea on any of the prices as it was part of the tour.

We stayed at Qudos in September and enjoyed it. I'm surprised about the water pressure comment, we didn't notice anything wrong. Qudos has limited parking so you'll likely be parking about 5 minutes away in an overnight lot that costs 9.90/24 hours. There is one machine that accepts coins, otherwise you need to log-in via a QR code and pay by credit card.
