We are planning our first trip to London and Edinburgh in June 2026. Unfortunately, due to some family health restrictions, we need to rent an Airbnb/VRBO instead of relying on hotels. Does anybody have any recommendations as to the safest areas of London and/or Edinburgh are, to stay in an Airbnb? Of course, we'll be using public transportation as well. Thank you very much in advance for your help!
My husband and & I travel to London at least twice a year & have for the last 10 years. I like the Fitzrovia/ Marylebone area.It is very safe, close to several tube & major bus lines. Both adjoining areas have several very high quality restaurants along with the usual pubs & ordinary restaurants.Central London is pretty pricey, so expect to pay at least $250 per night and up ( mostly up!) for 2 people. There is an AirBnB on Great Titchfield called Magda Rooms that a friend says is very nice.
Both London and Edinburgh are very safe cities, in the sense that there really aren't any areas of central London or Edinburgh that I would be concerned for my safety in. It's not like they're crime-free, but nothing that I find I need to be specially alert about.
Hope that reassures you - and as a general guide, to neighbourhoods, Cyn's recommendation of Marylebone is a good one. In addition, I'd recommend looking at Bloomsbury as well. Other central neighbourhoods include Covent Garden , Mayfair, etc (more hotels than apartments though). And then there's Kensington and Chelsea, which are not quite as central but still good.
