Rye, England

We plan to spend a day in Rye in early September; we've heard it's a charming town. Are there any 'don't miss' things to see or do there?
Thanks!

We visited Rye quite a number of years ago so I'm afraid I can't speak to any don't miss things - too long ago for me to remember. But I will say that it is indeed a charming town. We thoroughly enjoying walking through the town and just being there. I remember there was an old hotel (don't remember the name) that we walked into that was very historic. Many restaurants/shops. I guess my point is to just reaffirm how charming the town is and that it's worth a visit.

We liked looking from the bottom of the hill up to the top, and then when we got to the top, looking back down.

We found a nice bookstore. We had tea. We walked around.

I've just consulted my wife's memory and that's about what she said. It is just a nice place.

Check out Trip Advisor, as it has lots of recommendations for what to see. If you are there for the whole day, visit Rye Harbour which is a mile walk out of town and a Nature Reserve down to the sea. Knoops do fantastic hot chocolate in the old town.

Nice town.
