Road Flooding in the Lake District due to Storm Amy

This is for anyone currently in the Lake District.

Due to the heavy rain today there are a number of roads flooded and impassable with the situation deteriorating fast.
As of 5pm-
🔴 - UNCLASSIFIED RD YMCA HAWKSHEAD
🔴- B5306 DISTINGTON - HOWGATE
🟠 - A595 FOXFIELD - BROUGHTON
🟠 - A5084 LOWICK - SPARKBRIDGE
🟠 - A593 SKELWITH - CLAPPERSGATE
🟠 - A591 AMBLESIDE - GRASMERE
🟠 - A591 AMBLESIDE - WINDERMERE
🟠 - A592 WINDERMERE - NEWBY BRIDGE
🟠 - A593 BROUGHTON - TORVER
🟡 - A5084 BROWN HOWE - SUNNY BANK
🟡 - A5087 ULVERSTON COAST ROAD - BARROW
🟡 - A593 CONISTON - SKELWITH
🟡 - B5285 HAWKSHEAD HILL (debris on road)

🔴 - Closed / Impassable
🟠 - Likely to be impassable soon
🟡 - Passable with Care

This essentially means that it is close to being not possible to get from Windermere to Keswick other than via the M6 from Kendal.

Since the list was issued, further reports have come in of numerous extra problems in the Hawkshead and Coniston areas, in fact it seems that Coniston may be close to becoming inaccessible. Also the Kirkstone Pass to Ambleside road is now said to be on the brink of closure.

The Duddon Bridge (the old Lancashire/Cumberland border on the A595) closed at 1813 on the A595 and a rescue operation is starting.

Please take extreme care out there and expect to meet traffic on the wrong side of the road avoiding lying water.

A lot more rain is still expected in the next 24 hours, as are high winds. Hopefully property flooding will be averted although parts of Ambleside are getting close.

Please do not expect lake boats to run tomorrow on Windermere, Ullswater, Coniston and Derwent Water due to the water levels.
