Going to London early December and wondering if Uber or Lyft are available from Heathrow.
Last spring we used Uber but it was to Gatwick airport. Hopefully someone can chime in on using ride sharing to Heathrow.
Under normal conditions it's very easy to take the Piccadily Line (Underground) into the city from Heathrow. It takes about an hour and you don't normally need to be concerned about delays. If you're not staying within walking distance of one of the stations on the Picadilly Line and don't want to bother with transferring when you're encumbered by luggage, you could use Uber from the Picadilly Line station to your hotel. However, changing between the Picadilly Line and District Line at Earl's Court is no problem with luggage because there's an elevator.
Unless you arrive very early in the morning or very late in the evening, any kind of car (uber, taxi, cab) is slower than the train. If you can afford an Uber you might look at Heathrow Express which is very fast and not too expensive if you buy your tickets in advance.
It depends very much where you are going to. Where is your hotel/apartment/airbnb? Check https://tfl.gov.uk/ to find out the options.

Changing between the Piccadilly line and the District Line at Hammersmith (an earlier station) is even easier, because at that station both lines are on the surface, and you just need to cross from one side of the platform to the other.

Thank you, Chris! News I can use.
Why Uber? London's distinctive taxis and well-trained drivers are justifiably famous. Any service from the airport, public or private, will cost a great deal compared to the rapid transit alternatives you can see in the link in a previous post.
Uber as it operates in the UK is really nothing like 'ride sharing' you are in effect simply hiring a vehicle with driver, usually referred to in London (but no where else) as a minicab. There are plenty of firms which concentrate on the Heathrow trade. You have to hire them in advance. Some people here can make recommendations from personal experience of these which I cannot. Depending on where you are going they may beat public transport on convenience but unlikely to on price even if you fill one.
Taxis are also available but are very costly from Heathrow.
Three minicab firms that are often recommended (no personal experience) are Just Airports, Simply Airports, and Blackberry Cars. If you go to their websites and put in all your details (size of car, exact address, cash or credit, etc), you can get a price quote. This is much cheaper than a black cab picked up at Heathrow.
This way, the whole thing is set before you even arrive - one less thing to worry about.
Uber has announced that they are raising their London prices by 15% in the new year.
I used Uber in London as well as Black Cabs- Uber was cheaper- but had a great ride in a Black Cab with a driver who had extensive knowledge of English history. Also used public transport buses and tube all easy to use- wish the USA had the transportTion system that Europe has!
Happy Travels💫✨
Unfortunately for the black cab drivers the one advantage they used to have over other kinds of taxi "the knowledge" of routes around the city is of much less relevance and value now everyone has a SatNav.
The Uber driver I had to take me from Tower Bridge Road to Waterloo was useless when relying on Google maps whilst confronted with a road closure. In the end I had to direct him!
