Restaurants South Bank

Any personal recommendations for restaurants around the Waterloo tube station?

I'm afraid I don't go Posh places very often so my tastes are rather simple. I frequent the following chains, all of which have Southbank outlets:

Nando's - spicy chicken Portuguese cum African - beware the hot is HOT

Wagamama - sort of Japanese meets west fusion
Pret a Manger - sandwiches and some salads and a few hot foods made on the spot
Wahaca - the first Master Chef winner opened this chain of her take on Oaxaca Mexican street food
Busaba Eat Thai - what it says on the tin

There is a Yo Sushi! by County Hall opp. Waterloo Station, I've always had good food there. They do hot / cooked food too, and the conveyor delivery system can be fun. Last time we went, our waiter showed us how to open a beer bottle with chop sticks.

There is a Yo Sushi! in Waterloo, but I've not been there. I have a rule with sushi, don't eat it in outlets in shopping centre's (train stations), it's rarely as good as the restaurants.

There is also the ever reliable Carluccio's in Waterloo Station, who in my opinion do the best 'full English' breakfast in town. Not been to this particular Carluccio's, but they are fairly universally good.

Sorry I can only recommend 'chains', I'm not well versed in independent gems in that area.

And jellied eels or pie and mash down by the Old Vic.
