Restaurant recommendations West End

In July we are going with my mom to see the Phantom of the Opera in London on a Saturday. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for an interesting place for to eat dinner before the play in the nearby area? I know it would be early for dinner, 5 or 5: 30 PM, as the play starts at 7:30 PM. I'm not picky on the type of food, but would like a place to sit down and enjoy our meal rather than, say Wagamama or Pret a manger. I also would not like an expensive, fine dining place. Just an average, sit down restaurant with good food, if that makes sense. British or international food. There are so many restaurants I am having trouble sorting through the noise. Thank you!

It was many years ago, so I can’t recall the name, but after scoring tickets late that afternoon to “Art,” we headed a couple blocks north of Leicester Square to Chinatown, which had several Chinese restaurants. We picked one, got a decent meal for not too many £, and were then close to the theater.

Bill’s SoHo Restaurant is a 10 minute walk from Her Majesty’s Theatre. Ticks all your boxes.

Thank you guys for the thoughtful replies. These are exactly what I was hoping for. I think I will do a little research on them and let my mom choose. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

If you like Thai food, we stumbled on a TINY little place in Seven Dials, about a 10 minute walk from the theater. It's called Rosa's Thai Cafe and their food is particularly good. It's Thai but they've "tweaked" it a bit to make it even more interesting and delicious! I would make a reservation because the place is very small. Lovely people who run it.

Wimpy's, the UK answer to McDonald's, is long standing UK tradition. It's not haute cuisine, but it should be experienced. Many locations. Same for fish and chips shops.

There used to be a Wimpy in Southampton Row, south of Russell Square. It has changed, I believe, to of all things one of the only British Taco Bells.
