We will be seeing a play at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in London at the end of March. Could anyone recommend a restaurant for lunch or dinner in that area? We see the play on a Sunday so possibly a good place for a Sunday roast? But we are open to all suggestions.
Here's a post from yesterday that will get you started.
Specifically for Sunday roast;
The Ship Tavern, book the upstairs dining room.
Just keep in mind that most places that serve Sunday roast only serve it starting around noon to 4pm. And they often sell out early. Unless your play is a matinee, you'll probably be finished with plenty of time before the show, so you might want to expand your location.
Regardless, one place I know of that is located fairly close to the theatre is The Bull and Egret, which does serve a Sunday Roast, is a 2 minute walk from the theatre, and has good reviews.
ETA: if you like Indian food, there is a Dishoom in Covent Garden that is really good. They don't take reservations for dinner (although they do for breakfast and lunch), but as you would probably be there relatively early, it shouldn't be an issue.
The Devonshire is under a mile walk, serves gorgeous Guinness, and has lovely food. They age their own beef. The seafood is impeccable.
There's a Dishoom even closer, and Dishoom is to die for.
If you're going for dinner, I really like Shoryu (there are a few locations, including one around the corner from the theatre)- very good ramen, and it's delivered quickly which is key when you have time pressure of a show. For Sunday roast, also around the corner you have the Marlborough Head, which I haven't eaten at since they rebranded from an excellent Belgian beer pub (Lowlander) but the reviews are very good. As Mardee says, just note that Sunday roast is for lunch, not dinner.
Thank you for your replies! I couldn’t open the link to the London Dinner Theatre but the suggestions all sound great! I really like the look of the pubs! One of my sons is very keen to have curry while we’re in London and we’re all ramen lovers! Thanks also for pointing out that we should book for a Sunday roast lunch and not think about having a roast dinner.
Cinnamon Bazaar is another Indian to check out. I enjoyed it more than Dishoom.

Has roasts on the Sunday menu.
Last century was popular with rugby fans and undergrad and master’s students from nearby Queen Mary School of Law.
April 2024 dropped in for old times’ sake for a Guinness and fish and chips. Not much had changed, your average pub.
From my perspective the roasts in the UK are fine and filling but are a level or two below those served at home. Mainly because we are used to young/spring lamb and young beef. The poms are happy with older sheep bordering on hogget. The beef seems to me to be from older beasts. Recommendation is to not set your expectations too high.

If you like ramen, I would suggest eating at a Wagamama while you are there. It doesn't necessarily have to be on theatre night, because I'm not sure if there's one near your theater, but it's a wonderful restaurant and has some really great food. https://www.wagamama.com/
