Renting or buying hiking poles in Settle

Hello all,

I will be hiking from Settle in August and don’t want to bring my hiking poles but need them.

Is there a good place to pick up a reasonable set or can I rent or borrow a pair while visiting?

Thanks for your advice. Jaz

Hi Jaz -

“ Googling “outdoor equipment Settle” brings up options.”

That’s what I did and many of the results that came up were defunct. The only one that I can say for sure is still there is Castleberg Sports. (Quite happy for others to prove me wrong!).

There’s a Regatta/Craghoppers outlet at Watershed Mill at little way out of the centre of Settle on the road to Horton (it’s walkable from the centre). However because it’s an outlet, I can’t guarantee they’ll have walking poles in stock. Might be worth an advance phone call.

I think you are faced with buying, as opposed to renting, a pair of poles. Are you staying anywhere before Settle that might have more options - I’m thinking Skipton, Leeds/Bradford, Harrogate for instance? Or any major town/city that will have a Mountain Warehouse/Go Outdoors or similar ‘budget’ store. Other option is to buy online and have them sent to your accommodation in Settle in advance.

I love my poles and rarely leave home without them if travelling on foot, so understand why you’d feel the need for a pair. Hope you can get fixed up. Any other related questions, please feel free to ask!

Thanks very much! Great suggestions.

I would put my poles in my carry on but would hate to have to leave them at the airport! Jaz
