Renting London Flat - Protection of Valuables

I am renting a London Flat Jan 2014. If I was staying at a hotel, I would put my valuables in the safe. How do I keep my valuables safe while staying in a flat? I really don't want to be carrying all my money and credit cards with me everyday.

Thanks,
Kristie

You and the owner (or management company) should have the only keys to the flat, unless you're getting maid service or something like that. So your stuff should be safe enough there. But if I were you I'd carry my cards, major cash, and passport on my person, in a money belt or neck wallet, all the time I'm outside the flat. Put a little cash in a pocket for routine spending and keep the rest under your clothing. Use a debit card and ATMs to replenish cash every few days, having notified your bank of your plans so they won't cancel the card when they see a London transaction.

If you have "valuables" beyond cash and cards, like expensive jewelry, leave them at home.

And, btw, please share with us how you mastered time travel, to be staying in a London flat in January 2014! ;)

Thanks all :)

I was in London for the 1st time last December. I wore a money belt, but after the 1st day, I ditched it. I was using a Rick Steve's shoulder bag and I stashed my money in a inner compartment. I always carried my passport around since it was my identification. I brought 2 credit cards with me. One was always in the safe along with my extra cash. I brought my iPad with me and I plan on doing so on this next trip. Anywhere I went, I always had a hand on my bag. In the tube, I was extra aware. This is my 1st time renting an apartment (flat :P ) London is like Chicago. Be aware of what is going on around you and play it smart. Thanks for the advice!! :)
