We typically get a rental car at Heathrow. When we fly in, we will be spending our first night in Windsor. We thought about getting a car there instead of Heathrow (I think maybe the office is at Sough?). Has anyone done this? If yes, how did you get to the rental car office? Thanks.

Assuming you mean Slough (rhymes with "plough" and "cow"), there is a shuttle train from Windsor to Slough. This would be good if the office is near the station. Otherwise Windsor and Slough are close enough that a taxi to the car hire office would be reasonable. I am sure your hotel can arrange one.

Yes, I meant Slough. Thanks for your response. Now we are thinking we just might take a taxi from Heathrow to Slough. When I looked, it seemed as if it would not be unreasonable.

If by a taxi to Slough (or Windsor) you mean one off the rank at Heathrow airport, this will be ridiculously expensive as these are London taxis. Book a Windsor private hire firm to pick you up.

Slough would be the best place to rent a car. If you get the train at Windsor & Eton station right next to the Ye Harte n' Garter Hotel, it's a five minute train ride to Slough.
