We are making our first trip overseas to London for 8 days and was wondering if renting a Pocket Wifi is useful to justify the cost ($65). Our hotel charges $10/day for wifi in the room, but free wifi in the lobby. I don't want to spend precious sight-seeing time searching for (and loggin into) a location with free wifi while out and about.
Thoughts?
Have you considered changing your hotel to one of the MANY that offer free wifi in hotel rooms? That's my suggestion. I travel to London 1-2 each year and rely on free wifi which is nearly ubiquitous. When I'm in London, I don't need Myfi.
Forget that stupid hotel. I have stayed in a lot of hotels over the last two years domestic and abroad with free wifi and even a computer to print our boarding pass.
I've never paid for wifi in a hotel anywhere in Europe
Free wifi is one of my top priorities when choosing a hotel room since I always have to work a bit even while on "vacation". And I make sure it is good wifi by reading lots of reviews and specifically looking for comments on their wifi service.
However... if you are locked in to the hotel you have booked then I guess it makes more sense to pay $65 for the device rental than it does to pay $10x 8.
Correct me if I am wrong but I suspect it's a Hilton you are staying at.
As noted many, many London hotels don't charge for wifi. One would think Hilton is charding to keep
Paris ( the great grand daughter not the capital) in bail money.
All Starbucks, Costa and Nero Coffees have free wifi if you need to be connected. It's not complicated.
Usually you don't have to pay for wifi at Hiltons if you are a Hilton Honors member. It costs nothing to join and sometimes (like now) there is a special room sale on for members.
Are you staying on points?
I never had to hunt for a wifi hotspot, nearly all attractions/museums &etc. had their own or a hotspot through O2 or The Cloud. From accommodations to out and about I was never really without a connection when I needed it.
