Reliable and not crazy expensive cab company that drives from Oxford to London?

Greetings,

Trying to search around for a reliable and not overly priced cab company to drive me from Oxford to downtown London.. any suggestions? I don't want to take a rail or bus- I did rail last time with all my heavy luggage (by the end of my trip) and it was a pain (literally) and ate up a good 3 hours just going from Bath to London between all the cabs switches and rail journey and waiting.

By "crazy expensive" anything over $200 USD.

I'd need a cab for 2 people + 2 carry on bags, and 2 suitcases + larger backpack

£90-£110 ought to be around par for the course on this, without knowing your precise starting or finishing point; could be more, won't be less. For this kind of a one way you could get an Oxford or a London based firm. Train and bus are highly competitive with each other on Oxford-London which is why you can book ahead from a fiver.

Getting a bunch of luggage on and off trains can be difficult. Take the taxi. The fares sound reasonable to me, especially for two people.

Take less luggage - if it's only for a few days, or leave everything you don't need to have with you all the time in a left luggage facility.

I'd take less luggage- except I can't. Jacket-coat, clothes, camera, some electronics converters- that is one bag. If I buy anything there really is no space for 16 days worth of guidebooks and knicknacks. We don't really buy a lot- but if you have knicknacks for two people....particularly books + statues...

I'll look into the first company provided. Does anyone have others I can look up?

Just Airports is frequently mentioned (no personal experience). Note that, at least to the London airports, they have substantially lower prices for cash compared with credit card. You'll have to e-mail them to get the price quote for your journey, so ask about both payment options: http://www.justairports.com/contactus.php

We travel carry on only, but have an expandable zipper on our cases so when we are coming home, we can expand and check the bag. I also picked up a small compression sack that expands out for our upcoming trip, so we can unzip hubby's bag, put all the dirty clothes and whatnot in there, and carry anything of value in the compression sack on the plane. It's amazing how much you can get into that carry on with the extra 2" the expandable part gives you.

In other years, we would always visit my sister, who lives in the UK, before coming home and get a weekender bag from her, that my mom would take back next time she went over - worked out beautifully...but I think the compression sack -which packs very small and opens to 10x20", will be fine for whatever we pick up.
