Recommended towns in the Cotswalds

We will be spending some time in the Cotswolds this July. Any recommendations on small villages to act as a nice base?

I am very confused by your question, Nick.

Your thread title asks for towns, your question asks for small villages. All but one of the following are small villages and one is a town.

What are you actually looking for?

Chipping Campden (a town)
Lower Swell
Hidcote Boyce
Stanton
Lower Slaughter
Upper Slaughter
Bibury
Guiting Power
Cold Aston
Stanway

NIck,
We stayed for 10 nights in Broadway and loved it! We noticed that when the smaller towns 'shut-down' for the evening, Broadway was still awake with nice restaurants, pubs and a very nice grocer. We stayed at a 2 bed/1.5 bath cottage, quiet with its own private backyard + stream through it. The town is BEAUTIFUL and everything was perfect and I would easily recommend it to my closest friends. Here are 2 quicklinks.

Hi Nick, I am Jean-Paul's husband Norm, we LOVED Broadway and would stay there again except that our first stay was so perfect we didn't want to jinx it so this year we are staying at an adorable cottage (converted old school) in Milton-Upon-Wychwood, which is about an hour and a half from London but close to many Cotswold towns. Very reasonable and so neat! Here is a link to it.

If you stay in Broadway, be sure to breakfast at the Brown Fox, it is just off the main street and has wonderful eggs benedict and scones. If you stay at the old Bakery as we did (we actually stayed in Brook Cottage) you can walk to the grocer, restaurants, gift shops and tourist office for information. It is also very pleasant to simply walk around town in the evenings after the tourists have left. We also hiked up to Broadway Tower, it was a great hike through cows, sheep and complete silence save the bleating of the sheep. My second choice in that same area would be Chipping Campden, wonderful, larger than Broadway, the Badger restaurant was wonderful for breakfast and lunch. Enjoy your visit and feel free to contact us for more detailed info if you choose!
