Hoping someone with experience here will furnish ideas. Thanks!

if you ask for a particular type or price range or which end of Islington (it is quite large and has an infernal borough wide 20 mph speed limit and plenty of sleeping policemen) it would be easier to meet your needs

what kind of restaurant are you looking for? There are hundreds in Islington, and a fair number of them are in N1 and on or near Upper Street. Do you like international food or bangers and mash? Or burgers or noodles? What price point.

It is useless for me to say what I like if you don't care for that.

We recently had an outstanding dinner at Oldroyd. But it is very small and correspondingly hard to book. Doesn’t open until 6.

Upper Street has just about every British chain restaurant imaginable. Apart from the chains, a lot of people like Le Mercury (French) but the one time I went we were very pressured for time by the restaurant staff.

Last year I was working with a supplier in Camden Passage (one block from Upper Street) and he suggested a light lunch at Pistachio and Pickle Dairy, right in Camden Passage. The line was out the door, all local workers on lunch break. Their specialty is a cheese toastie, but they do cheese boards, light brunch sandwiches, wine, etc. This is not a dinner spot, but absolutely delicious...one of those gems people seem to be looking for. Sometimes has Groupons.
