Recommended car service to Heathrow?

I've looked at Just Airports and Heathrow Shuttle listed in RS book
Just wondering if anyone has other service to recommended
We have a super early flight to Dublin and I know we could just take tube but for the right price we'd consider hotel pick up instead

Thanks

We recently took the Heathrow Express from Paddington Station to Heathrow. The service was fast, clean, and convenient for us and since we took it on the weekend it was very cheap. Don't know how early you have to leave and how far you are from Paddington but it might be worth checking out.

You can buy Heathrow Express tickets in advance, we bought two tickets for £28.00 and printed then off.

Thanks Hogan and Robin
We are on Piccadilly Line so if we don't opt for car service the tube would be just as fast/ easy as Heathrow Express

If you take the tube to Heathrow it will take a little under an hour, Heathrow Express takes 15 minutes.

(not looking for info on tube or Heathrow Express, thanks)

Just Airports which is listed in RS book has some pretty bad reviews

Hi Christine,

On our last trip in May, we ended up taking an Uber from our hotel near Victoria Station to Heathrow and it was a breeze. It cost us roughly 40 pounds and was worth not having to deal with dragging our luggage on the tube so early in the morning.

Best of luck!
Robert

The term for what you seek is a "minicab." In addition to Just Airports, look Simply Airports and Blackberry Cars. I have no personal experience with any of these; I do know someone who uses Simply Airports.

Yes thanks
As I explained above we are willing to pay a bit for door to door service.
Heathrow express would require walk to tube, ride tube then transfer to express

The idea is to keep it simple and not have to deal with walking, dragging luggage on/ off tube etc very early am.
I believe the cost of this car service is actually less than a tube ride and Heathrow express tickets for 2 since we are under 30 days now

I've taken both Simply Airports and Just Airports. Love them both. If you pay cash, the fare is even cheaper.

Traffic in and around London at any time of day is tricky, and accidents and road works tend to gum up the works. If, if, if you were so unlucky as to run into this situation, paying more would not have helped you as you missed your flight. Suggestion: Take door to door minicab from hotel to Paddington and take one of the trains from there to Heathrow. The priority is to ensure these trains are working properly and fixed ASAP if there is a problem. Not so much so with traffic snarls and accidents. Then you could get a driver that gets lost! Been there! Just food for thought. Have a great time.

Maybe I'm just being naive but do you think a 5:15 AM pick up for an 8:50 flight is risky?

If we were to take tube direct to LHR from Earl's Court what time should we be on the tube?

We had a 9:15am flight out of LHR in March 2016 . We left from Earl's Court station on the 6:19am or 6:29am Tube on the Piccadilly Line. The 6:29am got us to Heathrow Terminal 3 @ 7:16. I chose to stay around Earl's Court specifically because it has early departing tube times and an elevator to help getting our carryon luggage only down to the tracks. Take a look at the tfl.gov.uk website for exact train times on your travel date. We were flying internationally, so we wanted to have at least 2 hours after arrival at our Heathrow terminal before our flight to grab a snack and do a little duty-free shopping. To me, taking the Tube may seem like a hassle, but having a cab or executive car drop you off outside the terminal where they are allowed to stop is not as convenient for us. We do not check bags, so if you are, the drop off outside the terminal may be better for you. We just take make our way thru security and to our gate from the Underground. Hope this helps.

keenlyelsewhere-
Thank you- that is very helpful!

You may have just talked me out of using the car service. I did not pay in advance so I will decide soon.

Allowing 2 hours at Heathrow is a risk unless you have an expedited security scheme akin to TSA Precheck in the US. There have been times recently that the security lines have been so long that we needed more than 2 hours to make our flight back to JFK. Moreover, gate agents can and do close flights (especially international flights) 30 minutes before departure.

If the tube is open early enough for you to arrive at your terminal three hours early, go for it. Why not!

If we don't take the Tube or HEX directly, we use either Simply Airports or Just Airports.

We always spend the night before our flight home at a hotel near or at LHR. Go to the Heathrow website and there's a list of hotels. I think all are served by the Hoppa bus which starts running at 0400. We like the Travelodge Heathrow Central because it's in a neighborhood with pubs, pizza joints, and a marvelous Polish deli. Many of the other hotels are not near any places to shop or eat. Double Tree by Hilton is across the street but Travelodge is cheaper and clean, quiet, and comfy. We have a last night dinner in London and then leisurely make our way to our hotel close to LHR. Saves all that early morning anxiety.
