Recommendations on Getting from LHR to South Kensington Hotel on Friday Afternoon in December

My husband and I are traveling to London, arriving on Friday 14 December at 2:00 p.m. on United from SFO. We typically take the tube to our hotel off Old Brompton Road, but this is the first time we are arriving on a Friday afternoon and depending upon how long it takes to get through passport control/customs, we may be hitting rush hour. Is it still okay to take the tube or would you recommend a taxi. We will both have our 22-inch suitcases and a small day pack.

Thanks in advance for you help.

You should be fine. Most people will be traveling out of London, not in the direction you're going.

As Emma said, you’ll be getting on essentially first, so seats will not be a problem. Remember to check to see if your hotel is closer to the Gloucester or S. Kensington tube stop so you get off at the correct one.

Thanks for the advice on the tube stop. We are just a few blocks from the South Kensington station.

UPDATE

Thank you Emma, Frank, and Jamie for your advice. Arrived in London today and took the tube as you advised. It was only 38 minutes from Heathrow to South Kensington. Really appreciate your help in kicking off my London trip.
