We will be in London for a few weeks in June and are looking for recommendations for places with outdoor seating. We are interested in pubs/beer gardens, a variety of restaurants, and a few places serving afternoon tea. I've found a few lists, but personal recommendations of places you've been to and enjoyed would be very appreciated! Thx!
I haven't been to London for quite a while, but I found several sites with "Al Fresco" dining in London. If you ride the boats on the Thames, you will see several Pubs, etc., as you go by. Some places may serve Tea in a garden or terrace setting. Maybe at Kew Gardens. Look at London Walks Videos for pedestrian views. Use Google Earth for a Zoom in look. Sometimes there are Food Faires in historic locations and of course Covent Gardens and the Street Markets have carry out for picnics. Some of the Museums have Cafes and Tea Rooms. Look online when you are there.
Granary Square, Coal Drops Yard, Coal Churchouse by London Bridge, Alto atop Selfridges department store, Ciao Bella in Bloomsbury. Jin Bo law, Vinegar Yard by the Shard, and The Nest at the Treehouse Hotel.
As far as traditional NON gastropubs:
The Ship Aground Wolsley street
The Anchor Tap by Tower Bridge
The Dickens Inn
The Globe
The Jolly Gardners ( no food at all)
Personal favorites:
The Dove
The White Cross on the Thames path in Richmond
The Red Lion in the Crown Passage
Princess of Prussia
The Antelope Belgravia
Two Chairman
The Blind Beggar
Fancy a pint?
EDIT: As far as places to eat Dishoom, Nandos, Bill’s and Pizza Pilgrims are chains with good food.
Thanks for the tips, Kathleen and thanks for the amazing list, Claudia! We will be trying some of those. :)
Hope you do. Enjoy yourselves!
Highly recommend a trip to Borough Market. Small cafe tables to stand at and a few picnic bench style too but loads of food stalls and many serving beer. We ate lunch and then ate second lunch once we turned a corner and realized we had barely scratched the surface of the options!
You can walk a couple of ways from Boroughs Market to the Tower of London; one way is over Tower Bridge.
Should also mention if you like street art the murals in the East End are a wonderful way to explore that portion of London. https://worlderingaround.com/en/countries/europe/uk/london-east-end-street-art-brick-lane
