As Kent asks , will you have a car ? A car in the Cotswolds is pretty much a necessity as most posters here will tell you . Lygon Arms is lovely , we stayed there this past Autumn and liked it a lot . The food in the pub is first rate , but keep in mind that they can be fairly busy , so you would be well advised to make a reservation ahead ( preferably the day before , if possible ) Chipping Campden is a popular destination , and the pubs and restaurants tend to fill up , particularly on weekends . The service at Lygon Arms is very nice and the staff , very welcoming . There is no dedicated parking , but on street parking was easy with , as I recall , no overnight time constraints .

Sig,, We stayed in a little village called Blockley in the Cotswolds. There we rented a lovely, charming cottage called Rosemary Cottage for a week and just loved it. The cottage is exactly what you would think of in terms of an old Cotswold cottage, but has all the modern conveniences you would want. You can find it by googling Campden Cottages and view pictures of it. The village was ideally suited for day trips which we did just about everyday. You do need a car though, but the driving was quite easy as long as the GPS was helping. From the cottage you can walk to the village for food and supplies and there is a very good pug just up the hill where we ate dinner several nights. Would go back in a heartbeat.

Yes, we will be renting a car and could explore the area for a week.

Bourton-on-the-Water would make a great base. The village of Painswick it worth a village, so beautiful.
