Recommend 1 Night Stay in Bath

Can you recommend 1 night stay in bath, but this is for end of June and the top picks that I have seen repeated are booked. Also this is for 2 adults and teenage son. Thank you in advance

I don't know of a specific place to recommend, but here are a couple of strategies beyond the obvious (i.e., use Booking.com or TripAdvisor and work your way down to the less popular places).

  1. Which direction are you coming from that afternoon, or heading toward next morning? You might look in a town a few miles outside of Bath proper and find a good value. Often people who aren't familiar with the geography will only look in the exact city/town and ignore the fact that nearby suburbs or small towns also have nice lodging.

  2. Invest in a phone call to one of the places you would have liked to stay that is fully booked, and ask if they have an "overflow" place they would recommend. Local innkeepers know each other and will sometimes try to help out a place that's new and thus not well known yet, or that's just been taken over by new management. If you present yourself well on the phone (i.e., sound like the kind of person they'd want to have as a guest), they may be motivated to give you helpful suggestions.

If Bath doesn't work out for you and you want to try the nearby town route, the obvious next step would be to look for something in Bristol, a 10-15 minute train ride away. It's not really a "suburb" - it's a city several times larger than Bath - but it's mostly off the tourist radar, so you can find some decent deals on hotels. (I might be biased - I lived there for two years.)

I don't have any specific hotels to recommend, but I could offer advice on neighborhoods, if you're interested.
