Reading's full scale replica of the Bayeux Tapestry...

I came across this article quite by chance when researching something else, and thought it was worth flagging up for anyone who won’t be in London when the original Bayeux Tapestry is on display in the British Museum.

Reading Museum has a full length (and accurate) replica of the tapestry which was embroidered in 1885 by a group of Victorian needlewomen. They copied the original by following designs traced onto linen from photographs. Woollen yarns were dyed to match the originals as closely as possible, and the project was completed in little over a year.

Not only is the museum free, there won’t be crowds of people and you can spend as long as you like viewing it...
