Railwork on route from Liverpool - York

Hello all you helpful traveller's,

As one has mentioned before there is (at this point) rail work on the railway the day we are booked to travel to York from Liverpool (Saturday Sept 16/23).

When I go on the booking websites it does show that there will likely be buses at the points of construction and it also says to check back on July 24 for adjusted times etc.

My question is (I know it may be a silly one) is do I not book at all yet and just wait until July 24, or do I book now. My concern is the prices will go up and/or there will be no seats available. The booking does let me go forward to book, I just didn’t purchase as I was hoping for feedback first.

Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

Cheers,

KS

There will be seats available- these trains cannot sell out.

However as advance fares are available I would book now, as fares can only go one way- upwards (eventually to £62). That is rare to issue advance fares when final timings are unknown. Currently you have around a 70% saving, so I wouldn't think twice.
Those fares on that route are as good as they get.

So long as you are aware of the fact that you will have around a one hour bus ride in the middle between Manchester Victoria and Huddersfield or Leeds, which will extend the journey time.

Transpennine are very good at providing enough capacity on their rail replacement road coaches.

Your seat will only be valid (eventually) on the Liverpool to Manchester leg. It is open seating on the coach.

Thank you Isn31c,
I will definitely book then as the price is good right now.
