Rail travel in UK over Easter weekend

Two issues:

First - trying to decide if it is better to use a senior pass or BritRail Flexipass. Just looked at fares, and if I booked today it would cost about $40 more for each Flexipass. But that might not be true later.
Second - We will be traveling from Edinburgh to York on the Saturday before Easter. Do I need to book ahead or can I wait until the day before and have more flexibility with departure times? Besides cost, does it make a difference if I am booking with the Flexipass? We will also be taking the train on the Monday after Easter. I hadn't realized that the UK has bank holidays on both Good Friday and the Monday after Easter. It doesn't seem to affect the train schedules, but I don't know how it might affect demand.

The point of a flexipass is that there's no need to book you just jump on any train. But if you know when you're travelling and want to save money then buy Advance tickets which come with a seat reservation.

The Britrail passes are convenient but they’re very expensive.

I would expect trains to be busy out over the holiday weekend.

There maybe engineering works affecting the rail line over the long Bank Holiday weekend, although nothing has been announced as yet. Trains will be busy, so book ahead.

We may not have a clue about The impacts of Brexit but we can as sure as guarantee there will be engineering works taking place on some lines over the 4 day long Easter weekend.

Easter holiday will definitely affect demand with people either going home to visit family or taking advantage of the long weekend. I would definitely purchase/reserve in advance for my peace of mind.
