Rail tickets

Arriving via Heathrow on 9/26. Taking rail from Paddington to Bath(already have Heathrow Express tickets so bus is out unless there is a strike that day). Due to uncertainty of flight arrival time can't get timed ticket. Anytime tickets are very expensive. Should I just pay for tickets day of? Any risk of sellout? Same question for Oxford to London (not sure of station) 9/30 although we won't be flying and could pick a time

There is no chance of selling out.
But you don't need an Anytime ticket; since you will likely travel after 9.30 AM (or 10 AM, I do not know what the rule is on the Great Western Railway), it's an Off-peak ticket that you're after. That's half the price of an anytime ticket.

For Oxford to London, have a look at Advance tickets and compare Chiltern Railways (to Marylebone) and GWR (to Paddington).

Going into London and back out again makes this a more expensive way of doing the journey especially during peak times, but as you have already bought Heathrow Express tickets you have the sunk cost.

What is your time of arrival? How are you travelling between Bath and Oxford? How many are you and ages?

Get an Off-Peak single from London to Bath, and the same from Oxford to London. How are you getting from Bath to Oxford?

I usually look for tickets through thetrainline.com

Do not use Trainline they are a third party seller. Buy from any of the Train Operating Companies
Suggest you consult www.seat61.com for information on rail travel in UK including how to book tickets from abroad
If you leave Paddington after 10.10 and before 15.04 you can buy Super Off Peak Single at £37.70 on the day
For Oxford to London search to London All Stations for best fare. You should be able to find Advance Single, where you have to travel on booked train, from £5.40, if you buy now

We are using a private driver for the day getting from Bath to Oxford. Thanks all for the good advice!
