Rail pass question

Hello. I'm trying to decide if I need to purchase a 3 day or a 4 day Brit rail pass for my travels in England. To get to Hampton Court Palace from London would I need to use my Brit rail pass, or is there another train that doesn't require a Brit rail pass?

Thanks

Just to add to what Emma said, you can buy individual tickets for any train; you don't "need" to get a rail pass to ride trains.

If you post your itinerary and the trips you know you are taking as well as the trips you are thinking of taking, people can give you customized advice on whether a rail pass is a good deal for you.

In general these days, a rail pass can be a good deal for people taking a lot of long (therefore expensive) rail trips in a short time, or people who need or want full flexibility (last minute tickets can be very expensive on some routes). They are no longer a good deal for people who can buy tickets in advance for substantial discounts, and can live with the severe restrictions on refunds and exchanges these tickets have. And they were NEVER a good deal for people who just aren't taking that many trips.

It is not a different train if you have a pass. You can buy a ticket for any train, which unless you are doing many long trips is often the cheaper option.
London Waterloo to Hampton Court is a commuter line within London, so an Oyster card can also be used to pay. See London rail map here (Hampton Court is in square A5): http://content.tfl.gov.uk/london-rail-and-tube-services-map.pdf

A pass is something sold by a company which does not run any trains, then it pays the companies which do run the trains to accept their pass-holding customers. But sometimes passes are not valid on all trains.
A Britrail pass is only sold outside the UK, it is unknown by normal travellers in the UK.
