Quiet Tube Tines

Hi All,
Has anyone taken the Circle line to Paddington around 6:00am? I’m thinking of staying at a hotel across the street from St. James station and leaving at 6:00am. Will it already be crowded on the tube at that time? Years ago I made the mistake of taking it around 7am and it was terribly crowded. Had to wait for a few trains to go by before I could finally fit myself and my luggage on it. Hoping to not go through that again….

Thanks,
Jonna

6am is well before the morning rush hour, so it should be pretty quiet at that time. The early workers will be in evidence, but they’re more likely to be go8ng in the opposite direction so you shouldn’t have a problem, even with luggage.

Thanks for the link Nigel. I’m staying right near St James's Park station so this is very helpful. I can study all this info. ahead of time and the tubes won’t seem so scary. 😊

Also if you use the CityMapper app I believe it suggests which car to get in during busier times. I found this app very helpful in London in particular.

PS Carrie, the tube isn't scary, just busy sometimes.

Thanks everyone for the helpful advice! I’ll be leaving on a Tuesday morning at 6am, but it sounds like it shouldn’t be too bad. Thanks Nigel for the link to the station, I’ll definitely use that.
And I’ll be sure to check out the Citymapper app too! :-)

note that if you board at 6am you will be on the second or third train of the day. You should have no problem.

Are you going to Paddington for the Heathrow Express to Heathrow - if so, I have another suggestion for you - or to get a train to the West Country?

Ok good to know! Yes, I’ll be heading to Paddington and was planning on taking the Heathrow Express to the airport.

just to say, if you went just down the road to Westminster you could take the Jubilee Line to Bond Street and change to the Elizabeth Line to Heathrow instead if you preferred...

I’ll take that into consideration as well…,thanks!

Just an FYI. The St James’s Park tube station has steps down to the platform. I didn’t notice an elevator but wasn’t looking for one.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the heads-up Rocket. Stairs aren’t too much of a problem for me, but it’s nice to know in advanced for sure. :-)
