I will be in London in early May, I intend to spend a lot of time at the British Museum and so would like to be in a hostel near there or else near a tube station convenient to there. This is a strictly educational trip so I am looking for a place where I can sleep the easiest, not meet people and party. Any recommendations appreciated.
I have stayed at the YHA ( Yha.org.uk ) Oxford street. It is .6 mile from the museum or about a 15 minute walk. It is on the top floors of a building on a quiet back street. The rooms are small but have only 2 bunks, 4 beds per room.
It was definitely not a party hostel. YHA London Central is about 1 mile away from the museum but is much bigger with 6 to 8 beds per foot and often attracts groups, sometimes by the bus load but I had no problems with noise.
Hope this helps.
Meant per room, not per foot re London Central
The Ridgemont Hotel on Gower Street is close to the British Museum and is reasonably priced. Not a hostel but not party central either.
Look at http://www.tunehotels.com/gb/en/our-hotels/kings-cross-london/?gclid=CLryuubM2dECFYiCswoddN0IZA,
The Tune hotel is a decent hotel. 15 minute walk to British Museum. Not as cheap as a hostel, but quieter.
