Question about Westminister Abbey

Hello - I'm trying to schedule a visit to Westminister Abbey for Saturday, Sept. 10. Their website asks me to pick my visit time, and gives me the 9-10 AM slot as the first entry time. I'd like to start my tour right at 9 - does that mean the tour starts at 9, or sometime before 10? I sent them an email, but they didn't respond. Thanks,

Dan

That’s just the entry time. If you want to do the Verger tour, you sign up when you get there. I think the first started at 10:30 but double check the website. You might still have a line so getting there by 9 and walking around before the tour starts is fine. If you want a guided tour that starts at 9 though, you’ll have to check with other private companies.

Edited to add- people were still waiting in line to get in even if they already have a ticket because there were no signs saying otherwise and we were obedient tourists. It also gives you a chance to buy a tour ticket at the door instead of inside. To make the 10:30 tour, I’d get in line by 10 at the latest just in case the line is long. I don’t recall people having a problem joining at the last minute if you get inside right before a tour starts.

Thanks! I have another commitment at 11, so I'll have to figure out another time to visit Westminister.

FYI, one should plan to spend about 90 minutes on the verger tour. Our tour started at 10 am.

I loved the Verger tour and I had been many times to the Abbey. However, I have gone several times without being on a guided tour and enjoyed it, too. Did you see there is a downloadable guide on their website. Rick's England guide also gives you the top 'stops' while touring the Abbey. Be sure to spend at least an hour, there is so much history there. 2 would be better, but I see you have another commitment later in the morning.
