Question about luggage storage

My family and I will be flying in to London Heathrow and then taking a plane to Edinburgh. The stay at Edinburgh is only for two days, come back to Heathrow and then we’ll spend the rest of our time(8 days) in London. We are a family of 5 and will have checked luggages. We don’t want to take all the big luggages to Edinburgh, only a few carry ons. I would like to store the luggages at the airport but don’t know if the storage places are outside the security section?
If the storage place is outside then it will be getting out the Virgin Atlantic terminal, storage place and then go to British Airlines terminal. Any piece of advice will help.

It's all on the web site:

Left luggage is in the arrivals hall of terminals.

BA operates from terminals 3 and 5. You can either pick up your luggage from T3 and take it to T5 using either tube or Elizabeth Line/HEX (free) transfer, or you can have the baggage transfered (charges apply).

Not sure where you're coming from, but have you looked at flying into Edinburgh and out of Heathrow, and taking the train from Edinburgh to London?

We are coming from Miami. I saw that all storage locations are outside the security area so we may need to get out from Terminal 5 and store the luggages close to terminal 3 which I think is British airlines terminal for flights to Edinburgh.

Left luggage and storage locaitons are two different things.

From Miami, British Airways arrives at Terminal 5 and Virgin Atlantic arrives at Terminal 3.

To Edinburgh, British Airways flies from Terminal 5.

Don't quote me on this, but I seemed to remember that all luggage storage locations were before security.

If you're flying Virgin Atlantic to London and then BA to Edinburgh, and have checked luggage, you will have to retrieve it and check it back in anyway. You will have to go landside.

You're kn two different flights so you'll have to go through passport control and collect your luggage anyway.

Frank, you're correct - luggage storage is in the arrivals halls, ie landside.

I hope that you have allowed plenty of time between two separate flights, especially if you plan to fit in luggage storage in between.

In the unlikely position that you have both flights on one ticket your checked bags will be sent to Edinburgh anyway.
