Question about Anytime train ticket in England.

We're thinking of a day trip taking the 1hr train from London Waterloo to Hampshire (Alton) end of October next month. For flexibility with schedule that day, we're planning on getting the Anytime RT ticket, currently 22 Pounds.

As our plans isn't firm yet on which date, could we wait until we arrive in London that week and buy it? Thought I read somewhere (perhaps on forum, Seat 61?) that Anytime ticket doesn't change price.

Thanks ahead for your help,

One befuddled traveler.

There is also a cheaper Off-Peak return, also a walk up fare, valid leaving London on the 9:00 or later train, but since the Anytime Return fare is only 50 pence more expensive it is silly to restrict yourself.

If going one way and not coming back ask for a "Single" (what you might call a one-way). If you want to go and come back on the same ticket ask for a "Return" (what you may call a round-trip).
