Purchasing A Pre-Paid Cell Phone To Use In England

I need to purchase a prepaid cell phone to use in England to call back to the US. I only want to use this phone for two weeks in Bristol England and London. What type of phone can I get that will work in England without a contract.

Thank You

you can walk into argos, the bigger superstores and carphone warehouse and pick up a non contract (simfree) phone for about £25.
Theres lots of 1 month deals available, lebara, tesco, giffgaff and others that offer excellent rates of hundreds of uk call time and rates of 2p a min back to US landlines and mobiles,
It is much cheaper to do a month deal than pay as you go as the rates for letter are relativey high

As suggested in the previous reply, go to the nearest Carphone Warehouse and you'll be walking out the door with a new PAYG phone within a few minutes. They represent many of the cellular networks so you'll have your pick of carriers and plans.

Check your arrival airport for shops that sell phones. Ditto London rail stations.

The TripAdvisor thread linked to above seems to indicate it's not a good idea to get one at Heathrow or at the airport in general. Gist of it is that if you run into a problem it's inconvenient to go back and get it fixed. I would assume that's not an issue if you used a dedicated company specific store i.e. Vodafone.
