Pub recommendations after stroll through London

Hi all, in a previous thread people helped me map out a route to do an afternoon walk to see some of the main sites in London (we just have an afternoon and overnight coming from Manchester and before Eurostar to Paris).

Brief walk description is starting at St. Paul’s cathedral, cross the millennium bridge, Shakespeare’s Globe, jubilee Gardens, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, Parliament Square, and Buckingham Palace.

Plan to start around 3:30 and stroll along the route and wondering if some people had some recommendations for a good pub for dinner and beers at or near the end of our walk. We will head back to hotel afterwards either by taxi or tube depending on location. Wife will want some fish and chips and I’m open to traditional pub food. Open to places along the route for a quick beer as well. Thanks!

By the Palace: Buckingham Arms on Petty France.

En route from St Paul’s if you walk along the Strand:
Old Bank of England or off Temple Street, The Edgar Wallace.

So long ago that there were not even “apps” at the time, I had a program on my PDA for London where you could search nearby pubs to any tube station in London. There was no GPS capability on the PDA but all you had to do was put in the tube station and you had an assortment of pubs with reviews that were near to you.
It got me to a lot of pubs I would never have known about.

I wonder if there is a real app now that does the same thing.

I had a wonderful lunch of steak and ale pie at Blackfriars Pub. This was following a walk across the Millennium Bridge.

Thanks all for the replies! Some great suggestions for me. That website looks great too Richard, thanks!

Treemoss2, no need to be snarky. Google Maps is a great tool, but I was more looking for some personal recommendations of people on this board who have been there. Unfortunately, places like Trip Advisor, Yelp, and even the reviews in Google Maps, as we have learned over the years, you need to take with a grain of salt. For me it's a great place to start, but I stopped trusting that the "top" places on those sites meant they were the best places to go. Thanks again all for the input! Looking forward to trying some pies!

Hi Jed,
As I'll be detailing in our upcoming TR, Ye Olde Mitre is one pub that is worth every effort to seek out. It successfully retains oodles of local charm without coming across like some overly-prettified, chain-owned-and-decorated tourist trap. Short food menu but that's OK (maybe consider the 'Cardinal's Choice' sarnie). Authentic and unstuffy, with a wonderful manager---hey Jude!).
*I realize that this isn't on your above-mentioned route, but...
Tube: Farringdon then seek out Ely Place/St. Etheldra church. Not far from the Terroni Italian deli that Stanley Tucci showed on his recent London TV series episode.
Makes a good late lunch stop after earlier visiting Sir John Soanes Museum.
I am done. the cider

Do not think TreeMoss2 was being rude.

To bad you interpreted the post that way.

Believe he/she might have been referencing www.fancyapint.com. Not certain if its still viable.

You’ve been given a-lot of good suggestions.

Blackfriars is a stunning art deco pub.

My favorite by the Palace is the Buckingham Arms.

Some of these might be an adventure finding if you've never been, particularly the Two Chairmen. But that is part of the fun.

On Fleet Street by St Pauls, there is a pub called The Old Bell Tavern - which I believe was used by some of the workers on St. Pauls.

Have enjoyed a beverage at the already mentioned Anchor, near the Globe.

There is Doggett's Coat and Badge at Blackfriar's Bridge

There is the Two Chairmen, not far from the St. James Park Tube station (close to Westminster Abbey) - also handy for the Churchill Warooms.

If you walk down Victoria Street from Westminster Abbey, you will come to Westminster Cathedral. Behind it is an old pub that used to be called the Cardinal - these days its called The Windsor Castle.
