PSA Premier Inn sale

Just wanted to share that Premier Inn is having a 20% off summer sale that started today. I was able to rebook my reservation that I made few days ago, taking my total from £704 for four nights to £540. Passing the info along in case this helps anyone else. :)

Thank you, Ashlotte! This appears to be only on the non-refundable rate?

And to add a couple more details - it is for stays of 3 consecutive nights or more, and up to Sep 30th in the UK.

I'm sure it is, MapLady. I've found that pretty much all hotel sales are non-refundable.

I don't mind—I just make sure I pay for it with a credit card that has travel insurance, and I'm good to go. :-)

Yes, it is for the non-refundable. I'm in the final countdown for my trip, so it was time for me to lock in anyway.

Thanks for the clarification, Ashlotte and Mardee.

Hmm, I always get travel insurance, and pay with a CC with built-in travel insurance, and yet get the refundable rates - this probably needs a rethink.

Ashlotte, thanks for sharing.

MapLady, I do the same as Mardee. If the non-refundable rate is a good savings, I'll book it using my Chase Sapphire Reserve card , just in case. Same with airfares.

Remember, most travel insurance has certain reasons you will be allowed to cancel a non-refundable rate. Read the fine print.

MapLady, the one thing that a refundable rate is good for is the "cancel for any reason" clause. If you're shopping around for hotels, or if you think your trip could change, then I would get the refundable rate. But my Chase Sapphire Preferred card will cover the loss for the same reasons you'll get with basic travel insurance. it also covers a lot of other things, so it's definitely worth taking a look at your card benefits.

Also most credit cards will not cover airline fares if you are entitled to a credit. But I'm always okay with a credit and I never buy the lowest economy fare that does not give you credit.

Thank you all for your comments about insurance coverage. I looked at my travel policy as well as my CC insurance coverage - and saw that my Allianz insurance covers a lot many conditions for cancellation compared to my CC coverage (Chase United Explorer), for example job loss, covid, pre-existing conditions. However, it is not a "cancel for any reason" policy.

I've already changed my travel plans a number of times, so it was good to have refundable rooms. However, I am now beginning to nail down my itinerary, so I am seriously considering moving to a PI for my next trip to take advantage of the summer sale. So thank you again, Ashlotte!

MapLady,
The sale is only on until 7 July so you have 10 days to make a decision.

Done! More money for quite a few cream teas now :-)

Thanks to Ashlotte for sharing, and Jean/Mardee/Frank II/Stuart for helping me figure it all out.

Glad this info helped someone!

I had originally booked the fare that is refundable until 28 days prior, at £1440 for two rooms for two nights, then before I was into the 28 window, I cancelled and rebooked a fare that was £1408 for the same rooms and had a cancel until 3 days before policy. Then I was second guessing myself and not locking in the cheaper, non refundable fare, so was watching the website and the sale popped up. I have now rebooked both rooms for £1080 total, which is a nice savings, and frees up some money to be spent guilt free on other things. It is non-refundable, but I have travel insurance and am leaving in a few weeks.

Have fun, Ashlotte! Which PI are you staying at?

We are staying at County Hall. How about you?

Could book one of three nights cheaper (£144 flex and now £115 flex). The other both nights the hotel is sold out.

Did read the rules. 3 nights needed. So I think, the PI was cheaper for the date, now. But it‘s not the summer promotion.

Thank you. Your posting was the reason I checked the prices.

If your room is sold out, keep checking. Our room category was sold out as well (twin room) and then popped back as available. Good luck!

I was in London in early spring with my grandkids and stayed elsewhere, but I spent 5 nights at County Hall last year and really liked it and the location. It's easy to get to most places, and there's lots of food and drink places around. I highly recommend Gail's, which is up the street and down one for quick breakfast pastries and croissants (their pain au chocolat is wonderful) and also really good takeaway sandwiches and so on.
