I'll be visiting London this September and wonder if anyone knows if Jerusalem and God Save the Queen are always performed on the finale of Proms? Having watched the You Tube video from 2012, it looks like it shouldn't be missed. Also, is it simulcast in Hyde Park, where thousands look to be in attendance?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Larry
Both are in the 2015 Last Night.
Proms in the Park is also on again - note that this is a ticketed event (£39) not something you can just turn up at. Details here. Much more there live as well as the concert relay.
They are Last Night perennials. You won't get into the Albert Hall for the Last Night--you have to attend a fair number (I think at least 5) ordinary Proms before you can even apply for tickets, and even then your chances won't be good. Proms in the Park should be easier, but it will be popular so you might be advised to look for tickets as soon as possible. Otherwise, it'll be on the television. Usually, the first half (the serious music) is on BBC 2, then the second half is on BBC 1.
Thanks so much Marco and Pete. You answered all my questions. Looks like a great event, so I'll get tickets for Hyde Park.
Emma -
Thanks for the reply and info. I definitely do not want to miss this, but I have a small problem. I have tickets for the Arsenal match that day, and I think it starts at 3:00 pm local time. Will I be able to get to Hyde Park after the match and still be able to find room to sit? From what I've seen on the web, looks like a very packed crowd.
Thanks,
Larry
Emma thanks so much!
This will be a great day - that I'm sure of!
Our local CBC radio station used to ( alas no longer) play re- broadcasts of the Last Night at the Proms and it was so much fun singing along at the top of my voice. Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem, all the ones we learned in school ...... full of jingo-ism but I was left feeling very invigorated.
