Private Car/Limo Transfer refer from London Standsted to London Heathrow

Arriving back into London via an EasyJet flight from Ljubljana. Unfortunately the only direct flight I could get on a Saturday goes into Stansted. My flight back to the US will be on the following morning out of Heathrow. A 50+ trips over my lifetime through London, but I've never been to Stansted. I can see it is on the completely opposite side of the massive London metro area..

My flight gets in on a Saturday at about 6PM. To make things leisurely, I plan to stay overnight at the Sofitel at Heathrow T5 which I've stayed many times.

So I'm looking for a recommendation on a private limo/car service that someone has personally used.... Most straightforward would of course just be a Taxi, but I recently took a taxi from Gatwick to LHR, and ended up costing me $160 GBP. I expect this would be even more..

Also note, I'm not interested in public transportation or National Express Airport Bus.. (Been there done that). That's ok sometimes, but this will be on the last leg home after traveling for 3+ weeks, and the end of a long day. So we will be tired and just want to get our bags and go to the hotel with a minimum of effort and time.

I see a lot of limo services advertised, so just looking for referral that someone has used where they were on time to pick up at the terminal and reliable.

Thanks in advance
Steve

Not used myself, but one of those usually recommended is justairports.com. Also simply airports.

No need to tip a taxi driver, it's not expected in the UK or Europe in general. You pay a fee for the service and that's that. Taxi drivers make a living wage and London cabbies make a very good wage even without tips.

By all means if you receive exceptional service and you feel it warrants a tip then go ahead but I struggle to think of any service that a taxi driver could offer that would inspire me to tip.

It may be customary in the US but it's not here.

The average tip given to taxi drivers is a bit under 10% from HMRC data. Although there certainly is no obligation to do so, it is customary, particularly in London. Rather less so outside and certainly feel no obligation if dissatisfied.

Not sure how the thread got hijacked and turned into a discussion of taxi tipping...

Thanks, I'm well aware of tipping customs, but I'm not interested in a taxi, just used that as a reference point... What I'm not aware is a good reliable car service reference from someone who has used that service.

Well you have received two rather contradictory personal opinions of locals ... (maybe in the end the highlighted word is the most important).

And what goes for taxis goes for private hire vehicles (minicabs) as well.

Cross-check any prices with the minicabbit website, although this is anonymous info.

We have used Just Airports a few times to and from Heathrow. They have been very reliable and personable and not that expensive. Check them out.

Thanks Susan and Monte, I'll check that out.

@ OP

The thread wasn't hijacked, you mentioned in your post that your previous experience ended up costing a significant amount and that it included a tip, you also expect that your forthcoming journey would be even more expensive therefore my comment was intended to highlight that there is no customary requirement to tip in the UK and certainly not with taxis therefore potentially saving you money.

I'm merely offering you advice, surely that's the purpose of these forums!
