Private car from Gatwick to London hotel

Is there a car service you would recommend for transportation from Gatwick airport to downtown London for 3 adults?

no, because the train is so much better from the airport. Traffic through south London is awful. Where do you need to be in central London?

Agreed.

Fast and frequent - every few minutes - trains by 3 rail companies link Gatwick station which is directly below the South Terminal (an unmanned frequent free people mover connects the two Terminals) link different areas of London in around half an hour.

Figure at least double that or more for a car. There is no motorway into London from the south, and it is normal streets with 30mph and 20mph limits all the way from the M25.

If you will be other than around Victoria or London Bridge, Blackfriars, the City or St Pancras you can get a bus or taxi from whichever station is most convenient.

You can even get easily from Gatwick to Olympia, Shepherds Bush, and Earls Court by an easy change at Clapham Junction.

Where will you be?

Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square

Gatwick Express or Southern Railways 30 to 33 minutes to Victoria and taxi.. Very close.

Gatwick Express is one company (actually part of the same company GTR as Thameslink, Southern and Great Northern) between Victoria and Gatwick - nonstop takes 30 minutes, more expensive; Southern is the other. Southern makes one stop at Clapham Junction and takes 33 or 34 minutes on the same route and is cheaper. Your choice. They go to separate platforms but close to each other at Victoria from the same platforms at Gatwick.

Taxi from Victoria to the hotel because buses going up Park Lane are on the wrong side of a wide busy road, and then a walk of a couple of short streets past the old US Embassy.

The only other bus stops are in Oxford Street.

That's why I suggested taxi from Victoria.

That’s exactly what I do. Southern train to Victoria station and a taxi for the last bit. No need to get a train ticket if you pay by contactless credit card, oyster card or phone. Just use the exact same method to tap in and out at the fare gate.
