The Premier Inn Swindon Central is now fully powered and heated by grid energy from renewable sources and on site solar cells as part of the chain's aim to be net zero by 2040.
Premier Inn is unfeasibly popular on here. Some people might like to know they're aiming for net zero.
This is information and maybe encouragement to use the hotel, even the chain, because of it's green credentials.
I got an email this morning from Premier Inn telling me about it, and I thought it was interesting. In fact, I was thinking of posting something about it but Stuart beat me to it. :-)
Premier Inn wasn't really on my radar before I joined this forum and I was surprised by how popular they are. The popularity of Premier Inn and the good experiences people document make me want to go and stay in one.
Just the other night I was scanning Essex for places to stay near the coast and Premier Inn was my first port of call because of RS forums. County Hall and Waterloo are exceptionally good value for money in central London.
When I feel better, I'm going to post reviews of our two stays at Premier Inns in Edinburgh and Portsmouth. LSS - they were fine.
Big fans of the British version of "The Office" might want to go in search of the "Swindon lot".

I definitely agree. I'm paying £141 per night for an upgraded Premier Plus room at the County Hall PI, and if I wanted a standard room, it would have been less.
without assurance that most of the energy of that somewhat off the beaten path hotel will come from their solar panels and battery technology I will say that I smell the chance of greenwashing. It is easy to say that all their grid energy comes from renewable sources - my house does too - but by definition all the energy from all sorts of sources goes into the big pipe, get mixed together, and what comes out of the pipe feeding the hotel can come from any source - it is only a paperwork exercise.
So my opinion is that the marketing boffins have sent one for consideration.
Yes,
We absolutely have to start somewhere with combatting and trying to even reverse climate change. If you look at PI's website they are going to a lot of work across the chain towards net zero. This is not an isolated example- just gone further than any other of their hotels.
The fact that Swindon has 4 PI's certainly shows that Swindon is a useful place to be for quite a lot of people.
Some people, like me, would certainly use this fact as one factor in the decision metric of where to stay (for any hotel). The town is a useful base for touring the Southern Cotswolds and the upper parts of the River Thames (to the north) and Wiltshire (to the south).
That is what I have used Swindon as a base for in the past- for exploring the surrounding areas- and would do so again if exploring that area. These days, now I am out of day trip range, I would even use the town as a base for exploring Oxford City and it's environs.
Claims such as this have to be audited. Baseless claims cannot be made.
