premier inn london

Would like to get an update from those of you who have stayed recently in any Premier Inn in London. I'm looking at the Holborn and Paddington Basin ones specifically. Traveling in June with my two teenage grandsons. Thanks much!

I’ve stayed at Premier Inns at Waterloo, Paddington Station and at St Pancras in London. You get a basic room at a decent price. I would not pay for their breakfasts.

Paddington Station is literally across the street and is, in my opinion, a better choice than Paddington basin for ease of transport.

I have stayed at least two and probably more like three or four times at the Holborn location, which I really like. From the outside, it has a horrible 70s look, but inside it is as comfortable and quiet as any Premier Inn. For me, as I am always coming and going on Eurostar, I really like that location as it is quite easy to get to/from St Pancras while not being right at St Pancras. And I like the neighborhood too.

It might be a bit expensive in July, but I had a good experience staying for 2 nights at the Premier Inn near St Pancras in November 2017. It's pretty convenient to various forms of transportation, so I'd check that out if it fits your budget.

I stayed in one of the Westminster locations - there are two. Both my son and I greatly disliked the auto room temperature that made the night difficult to sleep through. The beds also had controls in them that were led lit which once awoken by the uncomfortable temperature, made it difficult to go back to sleep.

There was some key card sketchiness as well in which some rando male key cared right into my room as I had stopped by for a quick mid day freshen. (My bad - I didn’t toss the bolt because I was planning to be in and out so fast). When I mentioned it to the staff they just shrugged.

I stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall. It was fine. Very central location with lots of things within walking distance. The breakfast was okay, nothing to write home about but convenient. I've stayed there twice and would probably stay again.

I stayed in the PI at Hammersmith which required a 20 minute tube ride into Central London, which suited me for the 3 day stay and saved me £300 which I used to see the sights.

I stayed at the Premier Inn County Hall in late March 2024 and I was happy with my choice. I paid £708 for 5 nights in a Premier Plus room. I arrived around 9:30 am l, so too early to check in, but I was able to drop off my luggage. I came back around 2 pm, and they let me check in early. I was told there would be a £10 early-check-in fee, but I was never charged for it. I opted to get a Premier Plus room because of the mini fridge and the better wifi. I’m still not sure it was worth it, as the room did not seem much bigger than regular ones I had in the past, and I didn’t really use the mini fridge that much. All the Premier Plus rooms are on the same floor.

The beds were very comfy, and the breakfast was good, although I didn’t always eat there, and everything else was fine. The location was great, and very convenient to many of the sights. It was a very quick walk to Westminster Bridge, and a little bit longer to get to Covent Garden (via the Golden Jubilee Bridge). Borough Market was about a 15 minute walk, along with a number of other sights in South Bank. There was an M&S Food Hall nearby, as well as a number of cafes and restaurants, including Gail’s Bakery, which I really liked. It was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and was a very nice option for getting a quick bite that tasted good. You could either eat there or get takeaway. I would definitely stay at the PI County Hall again.

I’ve stayed at and enjoyed the Richmond neighborhood PI. Chose it because it’s NOT in central London. Only reason I was going into the city was for one night of theatre. Rest of the time I was walking about Richmond Park, East Sheen Cemetary, sauntering along the Thames path to Ham house and gardens, having coffee or a meal at Mari’s deli, or Kurk’s Grill Bar in East Sheen. All of that as well as enjoying Edgar’s pizzas and the company of the best pub dog, Rudi, at the Mitre.

PI’s are all over London. Simply depends on which neighborhood you’d like to explore and return to nightly.

Hi Lynn, we stayed at the newest PI Paddington Station in October. It was a great location, rooms were immaculate and while it is directly across from busy Paddington Station, the rooms were very quiet. Most comfortable mattresses we’ve ever slept on. The kitchen at the time had an issue so there was no meal service, including breakfast, but we ended up not minding bc there are so many great spots to pick from nearby.

Hope this helps!

I stayed at the Holborn PI a couple of years ago and have stayed at the County Hall location in the past (plus quite a few others elsewhere in the UK). All have been fine--stuff works (Wi-Fi, hot water, etc.). The day beds they set up if you want a twin room are perfectly comfortable for me, and the large beds are extra-comfortable. In my experience, the rooms have been very cookie-cutter, though there are some PIs that don't have air conditioning, which would make a difference.

The Holborn PI is on a quiet street. If you like to walk out of your hotel and immediately be on a busy street, the Holborn PI is probably not the best choice for you. I liked it, but a significant factor was that I knew I'd be making multiple trips to the British Museum, which was easily walkable. There were a couple of restaurants within a block or so that served breakfast. I only ate in one of them, and the price for an omelet and toast was reasonable by London standards. There was also a nearby Chinese restaurant decent enough that I ate there twice. I don't know how far you'd have to go to find a special sort of restaurant if that's the sort of place you like. A look at Google Maps should tell you about the availability of fast food places if you think your grandsons might want to eat that way occasionally.
