We are looking at two different Premier Inns. One is by the Waterloo train station and the other is on the other side of the Thames by Westminster. Looking for input on the pros/cons of each of them as far as the surrounding areas (noise from station/hospital and nightlife/dining options).
(We are staying in London prior to a cruise out of Southampton so we will want to use the Waterloo station if we train there.)
jjec, I stayed at Premier Inn Waterloo in September this year. At the time, they were renovating the attached restaurant so breakfast was not available. It’s an extra charge per day. If that matters to you, please check with them to find out the status. I would think the work is done now. The location cannot be beat - just a short walk to the Westminster Bridge, the great wheel, nice bakery (Gail’s), and Waterloo station. The bed was very comfortable and the area was quiet. I feel like the hotel wasn’t fully booked so that may be why it was quiet. It isn’t near any bars or clubs-I like quiet when it’s time for sleeping. One small drawback with the hotel was controlling the air in the room. I think all Premier Inns conserve energy with their air control - it isn’t really a cooling/cold air conditioner. If that matters to you, enquire with the hotel. All in all, the Premier Inn met all of my criteria and was comfortable.
There are two Premier Inns close to Waterloo station—the other one is Premier Inn County Hall, which is a well-regarded location, but may be more expensive.
On the Westminster side, there is one on Tothill Street, and one on Dacre Street (actually a Premier Inn Hub).
So which two of these four are under consideration?
We stayed at hub by Premier on Dacre last year about this time. We really liked it. St james tube station about a block away. There isn't a ton of dining choices close by. We had several meals at Pizza Express and were pleasantly surprised. Victoria Station was close by.
They did have construction next door. No idea if the construction is done. They were really renovating the building. But it's been a year so maybe?
I’ve stayed at the Waterloo Premier Inn. Quiet and well located. An easy walk to Westminster, multiple tube lines 2 blocks away. Restaurants and grocery nearby.
Ditto Carol,now retired! 👍👍
Thanks for all your input. In the end we would up booking up at the Leicester Square Premier Inn…..
Leicester is 100 miles north of London.
Did you perhaps books the Leicester Square Premier Inn in London?
Yes Frank II, the London Leicester Square.
Been to going to London since the 70's. FYI Leicester Square can be noisy. Lots of people meandering about day and night due to the restaurants, bars, and Casino. There are Harry Potter, Gene Kelly and Mary Poppins sculptures for photo ops.
Hopefully the PI's double panned windows will help.
You won't starve staying in that area. Definitely visit Joy King Lau in nearby Chinatown.
