We will be in York for 2 full days excluding travel 1st week of June. Wondering which sites we may need to pre book or can we just arrive and purchase entry on site for the following: York Minster (tour/tower), Yorkshire Museum/Gardens, Ruins of St Mary's Abbey, Clifford Tower, Castle Museum, and Roman bath Museum. Will be taking in other non-ticketed sites as well. Thank you in advance for your kind replies.
Hi! I am going to York for 2 days during my visit to the UK. I only made 2 reservations for my hotel and Betty’s tea room. I thought about getting tickets for York minster, but I haven’t yet..I kinda felt like I could get them when I got there? Hope so! 🤞🏻
Clifford's Tower has only just reopened after a massive redevelopment project. It may be slightly busier than usual as a result. Normally I wouldn't bother to book in advance, but it might be worth considering.
One reason to prebook the minster is to avoid the queues. Tower Trips can only be booked after 9:30 am the day of the trip "as we are not always able to guarantee to the Tower will be open". So if you are wanting to do the tower, get there early to book a place!
Museum Gardens and the ruins of St Mary's Abbey are free. It is slightly cheaper to book the Yorkshire Museum and the Castle Museum on line.
Roman Baths - doesn't seem to be any way to prebook these - just turn up.
Thank you, great suggestions!
The National Railway Museum is excellent.
We enjoy York, especially York Minster. The museum in the crypt is fascinating. However, unless you are very young and energetic, you might want to skip climbing the tower. We did it a few years ago and didn't feel like the views from the top were worth the effort to climb all of those steps. You might want to use your limited time for Jorvik, the Merchant Adventurers Hall, or just wandering around and exploring York. Just my opinion.
