Pre-dinner show restaurant in London

Our last time we ate at Bocca Di Luppa, so want to try someplace different. The how is at the Gielgud Theatre. What do you recommend?

I saw Oliver! at the Gielgud Theatre in June. It's very good.

Beforehand I ate at Dishoom, which is a very popular and excellent Indian restaurant. They only take limited reservations before 5:30 (I think); and there's always a long line to get in, so without a reservation you might not be able to get seated and enjoy your dinner before the show. But if they have a reservation available, book it as soon as you can.

We had a lovely pre theater dinner in September at Cora Pearl on Henrietta Street.

Hi Lane, we have reservations at Dishoom on another night. That’s great you liked Oliver! We’re looking forward to it. Since the show starts at 7, I’m rethinking maybe we just do a late lunch that day and just do cocktails before the show. Not sure yet. We’d have to be eating really fast for that early of a show. I’d like to get a bit dressed up, too.

I’ll check out the other restaurant suggested! Thanks!

We enjoyed a wonderful pre theatre dinner at The Ivy (Original/West End), but with your new plans I would think it would be a great place to get drinks before the show! Especially if you are going to be all dressed up!

KD, what time of year were you there? We were in London last January and the place was deadsville. We had dinner, but we thought the bar was lovely and looked more inviting.

We were there in August but it was pre-covid; (probably 6-7 years ago) and was busy with pre-theatre diners.

We had pre-theatre dinner last June at Blacklock at their Covent Garden location. It was excellent, including the cocktails! I wouldn’t hesitate to go again, either for a full meal or for apps/drinks. Their Soho location looks more convenient to the Gielgud.

Another vote for The Ivy (West End). I had a wonderful dinner there before seeing My Master Builder at the Wyndham Theatre this past June. You will definitely need to book a table in advance. The shepherd's pie and sticky toffee pudding were amazing!

5 -10 minute amble to the Brasserie Zidel. So enjoyed the meal and cocktails that our waiter needed to remind us it was time to leave for the theatre!

November 23 enjoyed dinner there before seeing Jerusalem with Mark Rylance at the Gielgud. The role he won a Tony for.

Lovely evening out even though we had to dodge umbrellas as it was raining to and from the Piccadilly tube stop.

if it's near Covent Garden, I enjoyed Balthazar which is a real scene but felt surprisingly Parisian

I think we’ve decided to just eat a late lunch and do cocktails before the show BECAUSE, all these restaurants you’ve suggested look wonderful and I’d like to have a more leisurely dinner at those places!
