We'll be traveling to England in early May and are trying to get information on what museums, routes, etc. are still closed due to flood damage. Is there a comprehensive summary somewhere? Any and all information, tips and advice are appreciated!
Much thanks,
Laurie & Tom
England is big and there was flooding in many places. Where exactly do you plan to travel?
The only place I can speak to is the Lake District. The A591, that runs from Windermere in the south up through Bassenthwaite to the north, is scheduled to reopen on May 13. Meanwhile there is an alternate route that you can take that is a lovely drive that takes you about 10 miles out of the way. There is also a public shuttle that runs between Keswick to Grasmere.
Several washed out bridges in the area have been replaced.
This page has detailed information regarding progress of repairs and scheduled openings. Most of the areas you might want to see look like nothing has ever happened and are completely open for business!
I haven't seen a comprehensive summary for the whole of England.
Small areas of the Lake District are the only parts that I am aware of that are still affected. Where are you travelling?
Snow is forecast for many parts of the UK today, so bad weather may influence your plans more than former flooded areas!
The rail line between Dover and Folkestone is "out", and likely to stay that way until December.
