What days do you think are the most fun? I know Saturday is the big day. That’s our arrival day, and the only Saturday we will be there. We would go just fir the experience and a chance to see Notting. Perhaps a less busy day would be best. What are your thoughts?
We, as you, had to go to this market on a Saturday as that was the only time we were there to enjoy it on our trip…..VERY CROWDED but so worth it! Saw Notting and loved it all…..found some goodies on the side roads into the main market street as well!
Don't worry, Portobello has established malls and store fronts that are open on Saturday, too. and during the rest of the week. I bought a bunch of scenic book plates to frame for reasonable prices. Borough Market, near the Tower Bridge is a popular one for food. We visited several markets in the week we stayed in London.
I've only visited on Saturday - my interest is antiques. Scroll down for some times and sales market availabilities: https://www.portobelloroad.co.uk/the-market/
I have never heard of Notting Hill referred to as simply "Notting". Could well be that I am out of the loop. Is there a London resident that can inform me on the term "Notting" vs "Notting Hill"? (I do travel to London and the UK with frequency for work and pleasure, but would not be surprised to find terminology I haven't encountered.)
Notting Hill (not Notting!). We have a guest who leaves our townhouse B&B at 05:45am to take the tube a few stops to Notting Hill tube station then a five minute walk to Portobello Road. The ‘dealers’ sell to each other from 6-8am. Then the crowds start. Be a dealer for a few hours for best prices!
It is never never never called Notting. Just - no. I have literally never heard it referred to as that until this moment. This is not even me being pedantic, like us Brits are sometimes on these things.
It’s called Notting Hill. Yeah, it’s two words but it’s effectively one as it’s the full place name. In fact the emphasis tends to fall on the word Hill when it’s said.
^^^^ Thanks for the confirmation.
I even googled "Notting" thinking maybe I was missing something.
Thanks all! We’ve de used to go on our day of arrival, a Saturday. It will be good practice to via the tube.
