Port of Southampton to Historic Portsmouth Docks

We are coming into Southampton with Royal Caribbean on Friday, 10 May. Now, that I’ve decided not to rent a car…I’d like to ask those in the know, it there a public bus that goes to Portsmouth from the ship? I think I understand that I can catch a £20 cab & ride to the train station which is located at the airport. There, I can purchase a train ticket & travel from Southampton Airport to the see the Victory at the Portsmouth Docks.

Is this the easiest way to get to Portsmouth? Any public transportation other than the train?
Do train stations have a place to store luggage?
We’re taking a train from Portsmouth to Salisbury to see Stonehenge…then on to London. Is there any place to check out luggage at the Salisbury Train Station? Thank you!

Are you leaving from Southampton on your cruise? If so, I would do a daytime to Portsmouth, but if it is a one way cruise, then it is what it is.
I went from Southampton Docks to Salisbury for Stonehenge and on to Heathrow by public transit late December 2018.
There is a trai station much closer that the airport, bit maybe that doesn't service Portsmouth.
The Salisbury train station is small with no luggage drop, but the pub across the street offered that service...even at 8 a.m. on a Sunday morning.
I used the hop on hop off bus to Stonehenge and it picked up right at the train station.
As I had an early flight, I elected to take the bus to Heathrow rather than the train.
As it has been a few years, you will want to verify things.

Well there is a bus, the X4, from Southampton Central Station, every 40 minutes, but it takes 2 hours. Cost £2

Southampton Airport is NOT the best place to start your train journey, as you would have to switch trains at Eastleigh.

You are berthing at Berth 101- City Cruise Terminal (one of 5 Terminals at Southampton). From there it is a short walk or cab ride (which should cost less than £5) to Southampton Central Station. A direct train runs from there to Portsmouth Harbour Station (take care not to get off at the previous station- Portsmouth and Southsea) at 5 minutes past each hour- journey time 47 minutes. Cost £13.20

Take your choice- bus or train.

For luggage no train stations don't generally do left luggage. But Stasher offer it at the Premier Inn, Portsmouth Dockyard- https://stasher.com/search?amount=1&coordinates=50.8246907%2C-1.1174492&dropOff=2024-03-27T16%3A00%3A00%5BEurope%2FLondon%5D&pickUp=2024-03-28T11%3A00%3A00%5BEurope%2FLondon%5D&search=Portsmouth+Harbour%2C+United+Kingdom

Left Luggage at Salisbury is a much bigger problem- often asked about and no obvious solution.

I went to Google Maps, zoomed into the Salisbury train station and typed in Left Luggage. There is something across the street. Looks like the pub I used but some new life post covid. Another business a couple of blocks away.
In the new world, it isn't uncommon for other small businesses to offer this service.

We came in on the Queen Mary 2 to Southampton in Aug 2022. We stayed the night in Southampton and took a train to Portsmouth and then to Arundel. We walked to the train station from our hotel which was no where near the airport and took the train to Portsmouth. There wasn't anywhere at that time to check your luggage. They weren't allowing you to check it. I sat with our bags while my husband went on the HMS Victory. I don't know anything about Salisbury train station.
