I'm a huge cricket fan, and will be in Great Britain during the 1st test of the Ashes in November (a historic test series between Australia and England). Does anyone have any advice on where to find cricket being played on television, especially with the lack of free to air viewing options?
That'll be tricky. Usually pubs will show the test match but as these are in Aus they don't start until the early hours so no where will be open.
You might be lucky and find a pub that opens early for breakfast and catch a bit of the last session.
You sometimes get an early evening highlights package on terrestrial TV but (who have the rights) TNT Sports don't usually provide that.
TBH the best (legal and free) option will probably be youtube highlights. They usually show up ~30 mins after the close of play.
The matches will be shown live on pay channel TNT, also available through Amazon Prime, One month subscription about £35.
There will be highlights on free-to air BBC, but timings not yet published.
Depending on your level of keen-ness... I've watched sporting events in pubs at truly bonkers times in the past - you just need to find the right one/s. (Aussie pubs have a lot of practice at this!)
This site is normally pretty accurate: https://www.fanzo.com/en/bars-pubs/cricket/ashes/7915
And here's a recommendation for somewhere I have actually been (though not recently) - https://www.pavilionendpub.co.uk/ - you can filter under 'live sport' by the type of sport and the Ashes are listed.
The first test starts in Perth on 21st November. The start is at 2.30am UK time so will finish each day around 9.30 to 10am.
I would have thought that there will be pubs or similar that open for breakfast that may well be showing the last session of each day.
I think the BBC has the right to do ball by ball audio, so that would be TMS on (guess) Radio 5 Sport. I think they can also do TV highlight after each day.
no knowing what will happen this year but the video highlights of a home Test match and the Ashes is usually well done by the BBC, usually at 7pm on BBC2 or sometimes BBC4, usually for one hour.
Yup, that'll be me every evening of each Test.
the TMS mentioned above is Test Match Special
